1. Install motion sensor floodlights. Creating a well lit area will deter vandals from trespassing on the property.

2. Notify your neighbors, fellow businesses and community organizations. Whether the vandalism is being committed against a home or business, surrounding neighbors should be made aware of any vandalism when it occurs. Creating awareness will keep the community alert for suspicious persons and activities. Let leaders in the Asian/Pacific American community know what is happening so they can track incidents and advocate on your behalf. If English is a second language or you need assistance a member of the Asian community can help you.

3. Notify the Eugene Police Department and file a police report for any vandalism that occurs. Filing a police report will help document each vandalism incident and the damage that was caused. The Eugene Police Department non-emergency phone number is: 541-682-5111

4. Place security cameras in areas that have been targeted by vandalism. Position cameras so that they are out of reach and cannot be tampered with. Having a recording of the vandalism being committed can help law enforcement identify and catch the perpetrator.

5. Consider installing a professional security system with 24 hour response monitoring.

6. Limit access to the property. Keep all doors, windows and gates locked to prevent vandals from entering the property.

7. Neighborhood Watch. Both EPD and Lane County offers a Neighborhood Watch program. Any one interested in forming a Neighborhood Watch for Lane County, please visit http://www.lanecounty.org/Departmen…

8. Contact a City of Eugene contact EPD Crime Prevention Specialist at http://or-eugene.civicplus.com/944/…

9. Clean up and repair any vandalism as quickly as possible.

10. Trim or remove large shrubs and remove other landscape objects that vandals can hide behind. Remove rocks or other objects around the building that can be thrown or used to damage the property.

Residents of the community are the eyes and ears of our city so remember: IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING!
